The power-lifting team’s new season was just getting started and they had a lot to look forward to. They had many opportunities to grow their younger athletes and watch their veteran lifters succeed. This year, the team had high expectations for their lifting squad and should have been excited to see what they could accomplish—-until they were involved in an extraordinary scandal.
The team has been preparing for its first weightlifting meet, eating cows, chickens and…fish? One coach, Mr. Angler, saw something that raised an eyebrow. As he was reviewing the latest reports, he responded, “I was just reading over the scores and noticed that our weakest lifter, Tadpole, was pushing 225 on the bench press last meet. I don’t want to be mean, but this person in particular is weak as a small fish in the ocean.” We were also told that this was the meanest thing Mr. Angler could have said.
Following this, he looked up another weaker lifter named Minow, who reportedly had an incredible last meet. Minow had apparently hit the 1000 pound club, which is unheard of for someone who is as weak as this lifter. Minow’s stats suggested that he benched 100 pounds, deadlifted 100 pounds and squatted 800 pounds.
Minow had apparently hit the 1000 pound club, which is unheard of for someone who is as weak as this lifter.
Tadpole and Minow were brought in to interrogate them about where such drastic changes in lifting are coming from. They spoke all about how much focus and work they have been putting into their lifting careers. They said they have been eating lots of protein and have been on a tight schedule. The two lifters went on and on about everything they have been doing in order to lift so much but it seemed so untrue.
The Council of Highschool Power Lifting Referees and Local Fisherman decreed that they must be hooked up to a lie detector in order to guarantee that they didn’t do anything too fishy. Minnow and Tadpole were originally agreed to be investigated by a lie detector, but quickly changed their mind realizing that they have yet to say the truth. Upon using the lie detector, it quickly was revealed that they were lying about everything they have been doing. Mr. Angler and the rest of the powerlifting staff were scolded for not noticing the abnormal amounts of weight and demoted to become the new coaches of the JV bass fishing team. Lastly, in their public apology, Minow and Tadpole finally confessed as to how they are able to lift so much, briefly stating, “I’m sorry we put fish in the weights,” and then they walked out.
